Guide: Pixlr vs Canva vs Desygner: Comparison and Review
Graphic design is a field that can be easily overlooked, but there is a lot of work behind every design. How something is presented visually can be a make-or-break scenario where your intended audience may not accept what you are trying to convey to them, due to bad images. Graphic design is also one of those fields that is almost synonymous with high-performance computing hardware, but what if I tell you it doesn’t have to be? In this article we will explore 3 different graphic design web apps. Since they run on the Internet, your machine doesn’t need much power and should be able to run properly.
PIXLR web apps
PIXLR’s web apps help you adapt to different editing scenarios.
After signing up for PIXLR you actually have access to 3 different web design apps. They are:
PIXLR Express PIXLR editor PIXLR OMATIC

With PIXLR Express, files can be opened from various locations. You can open files from your computer by opening a URL or by taking a picture with your webcam.
After opening a file for editing, you can perform various adjustments, effects, overlays, stickers and add text to your images.
You also have the option to create collages with PIXLR Express. There are several layouts to choose from for your collage.

If you want to go beyond making minor adjustments such as overlays to your images then you should use PIXLR Editor.
The editor also allows you to open images from various sources for editing. You can start with a blank image or open an image from the clipboard.
There are a number of tools available in the editor, such as the color picker, gradient, and magic wand tools. The interface is actually more like desktop software.
PIXLR-O-MATIC
This part of the PIXLR web suite allows users to give their images a vintage look.
There are tons of overlays, effects, and borders to choose from, so you can get the look you want.
These are all paid features so far, but there are a few premium options that come with a fee, which are best seen on PIXLR’s website here. These PIXLR web apps offer quite a bit of functionality, all available online and don’t require any special hardware. Note: There are also PIXLR apps available on iOS, Android, Mac and PC.

Conclusion
In terms of stability, I had no issues with any of these web apps using it. In terms of effectiveness, PIXLR stands out as the most powerful of the three offerings. It offers some functionality that one would expect from a stand-alone desktop software. While this may be the case, it is not always desired and you may just need a template to get up and run fast. This is where Desygner and Canva come into play. They offer a number of templates and preset options designed to help you create great looking designs with ease. In the grand scheme of things, there isn’t much of a difference between Desygner and Canva. However, I will say that the Desygner editor’s ruler grid is great if you want to look at the dimensions of a specific part of your design. This is something that Canva doesn’t offer. Also keep in mind that Desygner is actually in beta. While I haven’t encountered any issues, there may still be some nagging bugs that can get in your way when using this web app. Be like Greg! To conclude up, if you wish features like a color picker and generally more advanced functionality, PIXLR should do the job for you. If you want to create a design for something that is pretty basic like a Facebook cover or an event poster, you should consider Desygner or Canva.
