Guide: How to Use Find and Replace feature on Firefox
Firefox may not be the most popular browser out there, but its users are a dedicated bunch. Firefox has also made significant strides with the latest version, Firefox Quantum. Quantum is designed with speed in mind and neat features as a built-in screenshot tool. One of the best parts of Firefox is that it allows you to install extensions and add-ons to add functionality that is otherwise missing from the default browser. These extensions and add-ons are beneficial for many. Especially those who regularly work on specialized tasks in the browser. Take online writers, for example. In many cases, they create content directly in online editors.
This is all well and good for the most part, but certain tasks can be quite tedious when writing online. For example, you can easily search and replace in a special word processor or app words or sentences. This is quite useful feature which is not included by default in Firefox. Fortunately, this is not the end of the story. There are a few extensions available that add this feature to Firefox. That’s why we’ve picked the top 4 extensions to add the search and replace functionality to Firefox.
1. Search and replace for text editing
In addition to finding and replacing a single word or a string of them, this extension has a few handy ones features Choose the Capitalization option if you want to search and replace case sensitive. The whole Words option only returns results for the whole word you searched for. For example, if you search for cat, you will only see results for the word cat and not for words containing some of it such as caterpillar or cater.
Words that you use regularly can be saved in Favorites for quick access when needed. You can view a history of word replacements that have been performed. This can be useful for adding more words or phrases in your favorites list.
The template part acts as a clipboard storage for text that is always accessible to copy and paste text wherever you want.
If you select Advanced Options, three more check boxes are selected: In-Text Selection, Include Single-Line Inputs, and Use RegEx. RegEx, which stands for Regular Expressions, are arrangements of characters against which text can be compared. Check out Microsoft’s support document on regular expression language that lists RegEx examples, such as “be +” matches “bee” in “been” and “be” in “bent”.

2. FoxReplace
FoxReplace lets you replace specified text and sentences. You can also replace text with RegEx (regular expressions).
Well, you can even replace HTML code with or without a Match case search.
Another cool use of FoxReplace can be replacing the way text is displayed on web pages. Take our website for example. By default, the GT logo is displayed with the text Guiding Tech next to it.
A quick replacement will change all instances of Tech on the homepage to Tech To Mars as shown in the image below. (Of course, such a change will only be visible to you. It will not change the target website.)
This extension even allows you to set up a replacement list in which to replace text based on what a user enters for a specific URL. It can be useful to test fonts and see how text appears if you have more than one blog and a website.

3. Replace
Replace is a no-nonsense add-on that can be used in a text editor setting or to replace words on a website. It allows you to replace text normally and match it with uppercase and lowercase letters. Download Replace
4. Search and replace
Find and Replace is another bare-bones implementation of a Firefox Find and Replace extension. Unfortunately, you have to open it from Firefox’s Add-ons menu as there is no way to open it directly from the browser’s toolbar. To use it, simply enter the text you want to replace and what you want to replace it with. The change will take effect on the next page you load. Again, this works in the text editor setting and as a method of replacing website text. Download Find and replace
Final Thoughts
If you are only interested in improving the capabilities of your online text editor by adding a search and replace feature, then the Find and Replace text editing add-on is best for you. This allows you to save templates that can also be used for emails. FoxReplace allows both website text replacements and online editor texts. If you plan to use website text replacements often for specific URLs then this is the best one I can recommend. Replace and Find and Replace are very simple apps if you just want to replace text and replace website text. You can always use a combination of these browser add-ons based on your needs and they will serve you well.
