Guide: How to Restore Missing Date and Time in Windows 10 Taskbar
A few days ago I was playing with the taskbar settings on my Windows laptopLater I realized that something was wrong – the taskbar was not showing the current date. It never occurred to me that my frolicking could be the reason for the date and time disappearing. By default, Windows shows both the time and date in the lower right corner of the taskbar with the date below the time. When the date was gone (not the Tinder, duh!) In the taskbar, I had to click on time to view it. A bit cumbersome. So if you are also facing a similar issue where the whole clock or just the date is missing from the taskbar, you have come to the right place. Here we will tell you how to bring both items back to the taskbar.
Show missing clock
If the clock is completely missing from the taskbar, you or someone else may have accidentally disabled it in the settings. A recent Windows update may also be responsible for the problem. But do not worry. Follow these steps to bring the clock back. Step 1: Go to Windows Settings and click Personalization.
Step 2: Select Taskbar.
Step 3: Scroll down and click on ‘Turn system icons on or off’.
Step 4: On the next screen, make sure that Clock is turned on. If it is on then turn it off and on again.
You can also right-click anywhere on the taskbar and select Taskbar Settings. Then follow steps three and four above.
View Blacked out Clock
If the clock is there, but it’s dimmed or shaded, making it difficult to see the date and time, here’s what to do.
Change the background
Sometimes the Windows background is damaged resulting in the invisible clock on the taskbar. All you need to do is change the background. To do this, go to Settings> Personalization> Wallpaper. Select a new one here.
You can also right-click on the desktop and Personalize from the menu. Then click on Background and change it.
Change theme
If changing the wallpaper doesn’t bring the clock back, try changing the theme of your PC. To do this, go to Settings> Personalization> Themes. Choose a different theme.
Change the color of the taskbar to black
If you change your PC’s accent color, there is a setting that will apply it to the taskbar as well. Maybe the accent color and clock color don’t sync properly, causing it to turn black. Therefore, in order to see the clock again, you need to change some personalization settings and check if it makes any difference. First, go to Settings> Personalization> Colors. Uncheck ‘Automatically choose an accent color from my background’.
Second, scroll down on the same screen and turn off ‘Show color on start, taskbar and action center’.
View the date on the taskbar
Often only the date disappears from the taskbar. In such cases, follow these solutions to fix the problem.
Turn off small icons
Remember I said at the beginning of the post that playing around with the taskbar settings was a mess up the date? The culprit was a small taskbar buttons settings. Basically, if you enable this setting, the taskbar will shrink and the date will be hidden. Hence, you have to disable it to make the date visible. To do this, go to Settings> Personalization> Taskbar. You can also right-click on the taskbar and select Taskbar Settings. Here, turn off ‘Use small taskbar’ buttons
Enlarge the taskbar
Another way to get the date back is to make the taskbar bigger. First, make sure the taskbar is not locked. When it is locked, you cannot resize it. Right-click on the taskbar to unlock the taskbar. In the menu that appears, deselect the option ‘Lock the taskbar’. If it is not already checked, go to the next step.
Now move your cursor to the top edge of the taskbar. You will notice it turns into a double-sided arrow. When that happens, hold down the left mouse button button and drag it up to change the width of the taskbar. Doing so will add the date below the time.
Change the time format
Sometimes the time format may have been tinkered with, which may be the reason that the date is not displayed on the taskbar. You must change the time format to allow the date on the taskbar. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Open the Control Panel on your PC and go to Region.
Step 2: On the pop-up window that appears, click Additional Settings.
Step 3: Then in the Resize window, click the Date tab. Here, make sure that d or dd is present in Short date, where d and dd refer to single and double digits respectively. This means that if the date is March 5, it will be displayed as 5 with d and 05 with dd.
Bonus Tip: Add day of the week to the task bar
By default, Windows does not show the day of the week except for time and date. To add it follow steps one and two of changing the time format i.e. go to Control Panel> Region> Additional Settings. Click on Date. Now add ddd or dddd in short time format where the former will show the short form of the day and the last the full name. For example, if you choose ddd, Fri will be displayed and dddd Friday.
This is what it will look like:
By the way, you can even add the remaining battery percentage on the taskbar in case of one laptop
Time is precious, isn’t it?
Imagine using a Windows PC without that little cute clock in the right corner of the taskbar. Nobody would want such a punishment. We hope the above solutions will get your clock back on track. The next up: Interested in displaying the live internet speed on your taskbar? Here is how to do it easy.
