Guide: Fix ‘Windows 10 Won’t Wake up From Sleep Mode Error’ Issue
Sleep mode in Windows 10 is useful for conserving battery juice during those much-needed short breaks. The screen turns off, putting the computer into a power-saving mode. Some users are complaining that their Windows 10 computer won’t wake up up from sleep mode. By pressing one button on your keyboard or moving your mouse should be enough to wake up up the computer from sleep mode. The issues can range from faulty hardware to software errors as we’ll cover below. Let’s start.
1. Problem with mouse or keyboard
These are the two most used input devices in the world. Since we use them to wake our computer, we have to start here. Make sure the mouse and keyboard are working properly. Connect them to another PC just in case. You can fix them if something is wrong.
2. Sleep settings
There is a difference between sleep and hibernation. You must consider their individual settings to ensure that your computer does not go to sleep before it can go to sleep. If so, you need to press the flow button to wake it up upHave you tried that? Go through everything to make sure Windows 10 cannot wake up up from sleep mode.
3. Wake up Up Rights
The mouse and keyboard of your Windows 10 computer may not have the correct rights to wake up up computer from sleep mode. Maybe a bug changed the setting. Find and open Device Manager from the Start menu.
Double-click on Keyboards and right-click on HID Keyboard Device to select Properties.
On the Power Management tab, make sure the box for ‘Allow this device to wake the computer’ is selected. Save settings.
Now repeat the same process for HID compatible mouse.
Wait, there is more. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers option. Right-click USB Root Hub to select Properties and under the Power Management tab, uncheck the box for the “Allow this device to wake the computer” option.
Put the computer back to sleep and try to wake it up up again. Hopefully that should work. If not, read on.
4. Update the display drivers
Could the display drivers be outdated? Open Device Manager again and double-click on Monitors. Here, right-click on your monitor name and select Update Driver.

6. Re-enable hibernation
If the problem persists and your Windows 10 PC cannot be activated up from sleep mode, maybe use sleep mode instead. I mean, it will definitely take a little longer to wake up up but can work as a workaround. It can go much faster if you use SSD. Hibernation is known to conflict with hibernation. Re-enabling hibernation from the CMD (command prompt) could solve the problem. Search and open CMD from the start menu with administrator rights. powercfg.exe / hibernate off powercfg.exe / hibernate on Type this command and press Enter to run it. Shut down and check again if your computer wakes up up from sleep mode.

9. BIOS settings
Accessing the BIOS on a Windows 10 computer is super easy. You don’t have to wait for the right time to press a key. Once inside, go to Wake Up Event Setup and do this: Save everything and shut down to restart your computer as normal.
10. ASUS Product Users
This step is for ASUS users. All ASUS computers come with the InstantOn app. You must turn it off or remove it. The app is known to cause conflict with sleep mode feature on Windows 10 computers.
Bonus Tip
Jacek Łazeczko, a GT reader, found a working solution that helped solve the problem. Search for Registry Editor in Windows Search and open it with administrator rights from the Start menu. Zoom in on the folder structure below. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPower
Double click the CsEnabled file to open it and change the value from 1 to 0 (zero) and save everything.

Time to shine
Hibernation is especially useful for laptop users because they are always looking to save battery. Desktop users don’t have to worry so much about it. If nothing works, you can always use hibernation, but that is not a solution. We’ve shared some solutions above and hope one of them worked.
