Guide: Fix ‘Windows 10 Taskbar Color Not Changing’ Issue
Who doesn’t love customizing their Windows desktop? Fortunately, Windows 10 has a special setting to personalize your PC. From changing the overall theme to changing selective colors, Windows 10 has it all. You can even change the color of the taskbar. But some users cannot change the color of the taskbar. For them, the taskbar color setting will be grayed out. The taskbar is an important part of our PC that we check out on a regular basis. It is almost always visible when we are doing something on our PC. It makes sense to modify it in a way that we would like to see. But what if your PC no longer adapts it? Well, we are here to help you with that. Let’s take a look at four ways to fix Windows 10 taskbar color issue.
1. Change the color settings
Microsoft offers three ways to adjust colors on your Windows 10 PC. You can set it to use the predefined light or dark theme that changes the theme for Windows items (Start menu, taskbar, etc.) and apps. Alternatively, the third option allows you to fully customize the colors to your liking. You can set Windows mode to use dark mode and the apps can be in light theme or vice versa. Oddly enough, if you select Light in the Color option, you can’t change the color of the taskbar – it’s grayed out. So you have to use the Dark option or go for Custom. Even in custom mode, you have to select the default Windows mode as dark and not light.
Do not worry! Here are the steps in detail. Step 1: Open Settings on your Windows 10 PC using the Start menu icon. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + I to open Settings. Step 2: Go to personalization.
Step 3: Click on Colors in the left sidebar.
Step 4: Now under Choose your color, select Dark or Custom.
If you select Dark, go to the next step. If you choose Custom, you will be given two options. Select Dark in the ‘Choose your default Windows mode’. You can keep the app mode dark or light.
Step 5: In the same setting, scroll down and the ‘Start, taskbar and action center’ option is now available. Check the box next to it. Then select the color from the color palette above.
Step 6: Restart your PC.
2. Change theme
If you are using a third party theme, chances are it will interfere with the color settings responsible for the taskbar. So you need to change the default theme. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Press the Windows key + I shortcut to open Settings on your Windows 10 computer. Step 2: Go to Personalization followed by Themes.
Step 3: Scroll down and click on the Windows theme to apply it.
Step 4: Restart your PC. If the problem persists, go to Colors under Settings> Personalization. Check the box next to the ‘Start, taskbar and action center’ option. Then select the color you want to use. You can even repeat the above method to change the taskbar color.
3. Turn off Automatic selection of accent color
If Windows automatically applies color to your taskbar, you must turn off an option in the Colors setting. To do that, go to Settings> Personalization> Colors, as shown above. Then, under Choose your accent color, uncheck the box next to ‘Automatically choose an accent color from my background’.

4. Turn off the color filter
You can also try turning off the Color Filter setting on your PC. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Open Settings on your computer. Go to Accessibility.
Step 2: Select Color Filters in the left sidebar. Then turn off the toggle next to Enable Color Filters.
Bonus Tips to customize the taskbar
Here are a few tips to help you take control of your taskbar on a Windows 10 device.
Turn off Transparency Effects
After setting the accent color for the taskbar, you may find that it is a bit boring. To get vibrant colors, you need to turn off the transparency effects settings. To do this, go to Settings> Personalization> Colors. Turn off the toggle next to Transparency Effects.
Use a third-party app
If you want to further customize your taskbar, you should take the help of the third-party app called TranslucentTB. The app allows you to customize the taskbar color for normal mode, in maximized window state, when the Start menu is open, etc. Download TranslucentTB from Microsoft Store
Adjust everything
We hope that the taskbar color issue has not been resolved on your Windows 10 PC with the above methods. Keep in mind that changing the taskbar color also changes the color for the Start Menu and Action Center. It would be great if Microsoft let us adjust all three individually in future versions of Windows. The next up: Wondering what does locking the taskbar mean?
