Finally, after a long wait, I received the latest Windows 10 update on my laptopWindows 10’s January update with version 1903 got me excited to try the light theme on it. Restart the PC

Update the audio driver
The installed audio driver often becomes incompatible with the latest Windows 10 update and that is the reason for sound problems. To fix the problem, you need to update the audio driver. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Right-click on the Start Menu icon and select Device Manager. You can also press the Windows and X keys on your keyboard to open the shortcut menu. Select Device Manager from it.
Step 2: In Device Manager, click the arrow next to ‘Sound, video and game controllers’ to expand it.
Step 3: Right-click on your audio driver and select Update driver. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver. Restart your PC after updating. Hopefully the audio will be restored on your PC.
Roll Back Driver
If updating the sound driver doesn’t work, try rolling it back to the previous version. It is the opposite of updating the driver as the updated audio driver is sometimes incompatible with newer versions of Windows. There is a discrepancy between the two. To fix the problem, try to roll back to the previous version that worked. To do this, repeat steps 1 and 2 of updating the driver. Then right-click on the driver and select Properties.
Go to the Driver tab and choose Roll Back Driver. Complete the process using the on-screen instructions.
Remove Driver
If the sound driver was not updated or rolled back, it did trick, you should try to remove it. To do this, repeat the steps mentioned in the Update Audio Driver section. The only difference is that you should select Remove device instead of Update driver in step 3.
Restart your PC after the driver has been removed. After the restart, Windows will automatically install the driver. Wait for a while, then go back to Device Manager and find the driver under Sound, video and game controllers. If installed, the audio will work fine.
Troubleshoot sound issues
There are three ways to start the audio troubleshooting process on a Windows PC. Follow any method to start and diagnose the problem.
Method 1: From sound icon
Right-click on the Speaker / Headphones icon in your PC taskbar. Select Troubleshoot sound problems. The troubleshooting process begins.
Method 2: via Settings
If for some reason the ‘Fix sound problems’ option is not available in the taskbar, you can also launch it from the settings. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Open Windows Settings from the Start Menu or press the Windows + I shortcut.
Step 2: Click Update & Security followed by Troubleshoot in the left pane.
Step 3: Under Troubleshooting, click Play Audio in the right pane. Then press run the troubleshooter button
Method 3: from search
Click the search icon in your taskbar and type troubleshooting. Click the Fix Settings option. That will take you straight to the troubleshooting window. Click Play Audio and click Run the troubleshooter button
Restart Windows Audio Service and keep it automatic
Sometimes the audio service stops after you update your PC. You must restart the service first and keep the startup type as automatic. Here is how to do it. Step 1: Start Services on your PC from Run. To do this, press the Windows key + R on your keyboard. Type services.msc and hit Ok.
Step 2: Under Services, scroll down and find Windows Audio Service. Check the Startup Type column. Make sure it is set to Automatic.
If it’s manual or something else, double click on it. That takes you to its properties. Choose Automatic from the drop-down list available under Startup Type. Then press Ok to save the changes.
Step 3: Right click on Windows Audio. Select Restart from the menu.
Step 4: Repeat the steps for Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
Check the default speaker
If you have multiple speakers, you should set the one you are using as the default speaker. Sometimes this setting changes after updating Windows, so there is no sound. Follow these steps to fix the problem: Step 1: Search for Control Panel using the search option in the taskbar. Step 2: In Control Panel, click Sound.
Step 3: Make sure your speakers are set as default in the Playback tab. A green check mark indicates that they are the default. If not, click it once and select Set as default at the bottom.
Turn up the volume
Fortunately, updating the sound driver solved the problem for me. Keep in mind that sometimes the problem is due to a bug in the Windows update itself. So keep checking for new updates.
