Guide: Fix ‘Hamachi Not Working in Windows 10’ Issue
LogMeIn Hamachi is probably the most popular and preferred Virtual Private Network (VPN) app for the Windows platform. Gamers rely on it religiously. While it is easy to use, the launch of Windows 10 has complicated things. Many users are complaining about how Hamachi is not working on their computers. The issue is twofold. If Hamachi doesn’t work on your Windows PC, read on guide Let’s start.
1. Reboot
Some users said rebooting their system once solved the problem. Well, it’s worth a try and only takes a few minutes. Try it.
2. Run as Admin
Hamachi needs administrator rights to set up up a VPN on your computer. Maybe that’s what’s missing while you’re trying to run it. Right click on Hamachi and select Run as administrator.
If that fixes the problem, right-click again and this time select Properties.
Select Run this program as administrator on the Compatibility tab and click Apply and OK.
That will force Hamachi to start and run with administrator privileges by default.
3. Firewall and antivirus
Hamachi creates a VPN that you can use to provide remote access to your computer. An app so powerful, it’s possible firewall and antivirus can block Hamachi, for your own good. Start Firewall and select Properties from the Action tab.
Now under the Domain Profile tab, select Customize next to Secure Network Connections.
Take out Hamachi from this list and leave the rest as is. Save everything and proceed with your antivirus program. See if it blocks Hamachi or not.
4. Another VPN client
Are you using a different VPN client on your computer? If so, they may be fighting for world domination or just for your computer. Even if you have a standard VPN client from the manufacturer, such as a Dell computer with a package, you should remove it. Give Hamachi another chance after rebooting your PC. 5. Update Hamachi drivers
Search for Device Manager in Windows Search and open it. You will find the LogMeIn Hamachi Virtual Ethernet Adapter entry. Right click on it to select Update drivers here.
Follow the onscreen instructions to update the drivers on your computer if they are out of date.
6. Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol Error
Several users have reported that Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol is the cause of all Hamachi issues on their PC. However, it is an easy fix. Open Control Panel and click View network status and task under Network and Internet.
Click Change adapter settings.
Double click on Hamachi to open the LAN settings. Make sure the Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol is unchecked.
Make sure your adapter is still called Hamachi instead of something like Ethernet 4. Sometimes the name is changed to the default name and therefore you keep seeing the same error message.
7. Install as older hardware
If the above solution doesn’t work, we will have to reinstall Hamachi. This time, however, you have to install it as legacy hardware. To do this, go back to Device Manager and this time click Remove Device.
In the same screen, select Add Legacy Hardware on the Action tab.
Click on Next here.
Select Install the hardware I manually select from a list (Advanced) and click Next.
Here, select View all devices and click Next.
Click on Have Disk.
Now just browse to the folder where you installed Hamachi and select the driver file (.inf) from the folder. That will install Hamachi as Legacy Hardware.
8. The problem with the yellow triangle
It is called so because when your friends try to connect to your server, you see a yellow triangle next to their name and they cannot connect to the network. By chance, is there ‘Direct tunnel’ when you float over the triangle? Several users have reported that the LogMeIn Hamachi Tunneling Engine Service, which needs to be enabled, has been disabled on their computers for some reason. That can cause the above error. To check this, press Ctrl + R to open the Run prompt and type services.msc before pressing Enter.
Right-click LogMeIn Hamachi Tunneling Engine Service and click Start if the service is not running. If it is already running, the Start option will be greyed out, click Restart and wait a while before checking if Hamachi works on Windows 10 or not.
Now right click again and this time select Properties. On the General tab, make sure the Startup Type is set to Automatic so that you don’t have to come back here every time you restart your PC.
9. Priority of network adapters
If you have more than one network adapter on your computer, each network adapter gets a priority statistic. This statistic is used by Windows to connect to the Internet. The Hamachi support team recommends giving Hamachi a higher number of 9000. Press the Windows key + I shortcut to launch Settings and select Network & Internet.
Under the Status tab, scroll a bit to find Change adapter options and click on it.
Right click on Hamachi adapter and select Properties.
You are looking for TCP / IPv4. Select it and click Properties.
Click on Advanced.
In the IP Settings tab, clear the Auto Metric check box and enter 9000 manually. Click OK and save everything. Restart Hamachi and connect again.
Note that a lower number here means higher priority, which is why we are giving Hamachi a higher number so that Windows will not use it to connect to the Internet.
10. Power cycle
When you turn off your computer or log out, it affects the power cycle of your computer. The power cycle then affects all services that depend on it to run, including Hamachi. To make sure this doesn’t happen, open Notepad with administrator privileges and copy and paste the commands below: net stop Hamachi2Svcnet start Hamachi2Svcstart “X: FilepathLogMeIn Hamachihamachi-2-ui.exe” exit Note: The X above represents the partition letter of the hard drive. Do not change the order. Replace Filepath with the path to where you installed Hamachi. Now save the file as HamachiStart.cmd in the folder structure below. When you save the file, select Save as type as all files. C: WindowsSystem32
Press Windows key + R to open the Run prompt and type the command below before pressing Enter. That will open the Task Scheduler. taskschd.msc
Click Create Task.
You can give this task any name, but to make it easy to remember, name it HamachiStart. Select ‘Run only when the user is signed in’ and under that Windows 10 in the Configure for option. Click OK.
Select the Triggers tab and click New.
That’s where we’ll decide when to run the job so it doesn’t directly affect the power cycle. Select On startup from the drop-down menu next to Start task and check Enabled under Advanced Settings. Click OK.
Now go to the Actions tab and click on New here.
Select Start a program from the Action drop-down menu and browse to the System32 folder where you saved the HamachiStart.cmd file. Click OK.
Finally, go to the Conditions tab and uncheck all the options you see there.
Click OK and save everything before closing a window. Reboot. The next time you log out, services related to Hamachi will not be affected and will remain active.
