Since the Fitbit Ace 3 is designed for kids, it doesn’t record everything that an adult tracker would. For example, there is no data on calories burned or a way to track weight loss. Kids over 13 can track these things if they create a standard Fitbit account, which is not accessible to kids under 13. For younger kids, the Ace 3 tracks sleep, steps, exercise time and active minutes. The latter are measured with multiple sensors to capture all kinds of activities like jumping, trampolining, and sports, as well as the familiar step counting. There is no GPS for location tracking. You or your kids can set a number of activity goals that offer fun rewards for reaching a certain number of steps or active minutes, and the Fitbit app has a kid’s view where kids can see their stats but not the rest of the family’s fitness data. Although the app isn’t specifically geared toward kids, it works well enough, and the numbers proved to be strong motivators for our young testers. The Fitbit Ace 3 doesn’t offer any flashy features like movie overlays or cartoon characters. The Ace 3 looks good, is comfortable and durable enough to withstand the most exciting adventures. Like its predecessor, the Fitbit Ace 3 is a small, rectangular pebble surrounded by a silicone band that protects it from bumps and knocks. The Ace 3 is rounder than the Ace 2, giving it a more modern look. It has an adjustable plastic buckle and is currently available in two variants: dark blue with green buckle and black with red buckle. Bracelets in other colors can be purchased separately. The bracelet fits wrists with a circumference of 116 mm to 168 mm. The Ace 3 is water resistant to a depth of 50 meters, so it can be worn in the shower or while swimming. The silicone strap is comfortable and easy to adjust, and we were pleased that unlike many other children’s bracelets, the Fitbit strap did not irritate our little tester’s very sensitive skin. While other kids’ watches cause a flaming red rash when worn overnight, the Fitbit caused no skin irritation 24/7 for an entire month.
