Guide: Customize Google Forms With Themes: Tips and Tutorial
Google Forms is a great way to collect information from others, but the problem until now has been that forms looked pretty simple and unattractive. That’s about to change, as Google introduced themes for the service. Here is how to use them.
Google Forms Themes
Using Google Forms to collect input from your friends or colleagues is pretty easy, as you probably already know, but the problem is that those forms don’t have anything of interest. They’re just, well, shapes like all other shapes, even if the service itself is great (it can even be used to track expenses). With that said, let’s say you’ve just started creating your all-new form that you can’t wait to share with your friends or colleagues. In this case, I want to know who my friends think they will win the UEFA Champions League this year. So I just go to Google Forms and start creating my form.
Although I like the content of my form, I don’t think it looks nice. When I click on View live form, I see this:
Until a while ago I couldn’t do much about it. Fortunately, that has now all changed. Google has introduced themes for Forms, and you can even tweak things here and there. To do this, first click on Change theme buttonYou can find it in the toolbar above the form editing section.
The moment you click on it, a list of themes will appear on the right side of your window. At the time of writing this article, there were 24, but knowing Google I’m pretty sure that number will increase.
You can click on any theme you want and it will be applied to your form immediately. Things look very different already, don’t they?
You can play with the themes until you come across the one that is the best sum up your form. So let’s say you picked one, but you still think it needs a few minor tweaks. As you may have noticed, the theme you selected now has a Customize buttonClick on it to adjust the settings.
There are two categories of theme settings that you can change. The first concerns the fonts. You can change fonts individually, as shown below, for the title, description, question, help text, and options.
You are not limited to the fonts displayed; you can add many more from a varied list.
After you are done playing with the fonts, you can also change the background and images.
There are many possibilities. In some cases, you can search for an image online or, for the header, choose one from a large list. Google has clearly done its homework.
So with just a few clicks (and I’m definitely not an artist), you can get something like this. I think it surpasses the simple shapes you had until now.
Conclusion
I’m sure the new themes feature will attract new users to Google Forms as it should certainly increase the appeal of the service. I personally like it a lot more now. Image Credits: Shutterstock
