The Best PS4 Games For Kids
[contentsdisabled] When most people talk about the PlayStation 4, what they think of is the (brilliant) selection of games aimed at an older audience. What lags a little behind, however, is the console’s extensive kids’ games category. There are as many games for teens as there are for adults, and many of them are fun, regardless of age. Whether it’s easy-to-play games for kids or titles that let kids and parents play together, the PS4 is an untapped treasure for the whole family. If you have kids, you’ll be glad to know that the best PS4 games for kids are, in some cases, also the best PS4 games for teens and adults. While many children’s games are simple shovel items designed to distract young minds without rewarding them, there are also some real gems. Most of the games on this list are platformers, as the “Mascot Platformer” has been a favorite for kids since Super Mario passed through the Mushroom Kingdom. But whether your child opts for racing games, interactive sandboxes, or open-world adventures, we’ve got you covered too.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
As someone who has played the first three Crash Bandicoot games over and over again, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy delivers exactly what I wanted. The platform, for better and occasionally for worse, maintains the demanding and punishing challenge of the originals coated in a polished, modern sheen that makes even the most familiar levels feel brand new. And just as the original Naughty Dog trilogy sucked me in years ago, the Vicarious Visions remakes have me eager to collect every crystal, gem, and relic once more. This is largely due to the impeccable technical work Vicarious Visions did to maintain the difficult but rewarding platforming of Naughty Dog’s original trilogy, while drastically updating everything around that foundation. loose hot wheels
You could be forgiven if you were ready to dismiss Hot Wheels Unleashed as another shameless licensed release vying for the attention of younger gamers, but that would be a mistake. While the game is undoubtedly fun to share with the family, this pilot is more than meets the eye. Thanks to rewarding speed, smart track design and tons of customization options, these tiny cars pack a big punch, delivering many hours of racing thrills through single-player, multiplayer and creation tools. Developer Milestone recognizes the nostalgia many have for Hot Wheels and deftly taps into that fondness. Unleashed does not attempt to translate the cars into a full-size, real-world setting. Instead, you race along kitchen counters, basement floors, and college classroom chairs, navigating driverless toy vehicles through absurd, straight, flaming turns. Buy now
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition
After playing Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5, it would have been very difficult to go back to the best superhero game of the PS4 version. Fortunately, Insomniac has adapted Peter Parker’s adventure with all the exceptional technology developed for Miles, including improved lighting and frame rates, ray-traced reflections, lightning-fast load times, and DualSense haptic feedback. Back in my original review of Marvel’s Spider-Man, I called it Great, highlighting its incredible swing through New York City, its excellent Peter Parker story, and battles with familiar villains. I complained a little about some suit powers being much better than others and the repetitive side quests being a drag, but overall it’s one of the best superhero games ever made. Buy now
Minecraft
Do you own an electronic device? It can probably run Minecraft. The game is currently available for $26.95 for PC, which I’ll review here. Minecraft looks great on a high-end gaming PC, but the rest of us certainly appreciate how it performs even on a standard desktop computer. You can even play games on a Raspberry Pi if you like that sort of thing. Each version of the game is slightly different, although the fundamentals are universal. The underlying rule of Minecraft is that you have to work for everything. Even discovering the specific recipes for crafts or how to turning raw pork meat into cooked pork chop will require multiple steps and multiple resources. You can try to figure this out on your own, but the Minecraft Wiki is an invaluable source that will connect you to everything that can be done in the game along with the huge and active community of players. New Super Luck Tale
New Super Lucky’s Tale is not a complete sequel to the Super Lucky’s Tale that came out. It’s not even a sequel of sorts; is a remake of a game released less than three years ago. I’m not sure Lucky still has the scope or pedigree to set a dangerous precedent with remaking games on the same console generation, but it’s still a cause for concern. That said, the work that went into this remake made a world of difference. This version is the complete package, unlike the original which had additional DLC worlds to explore. This also changes the play order in which you find the different worlds: for example, Gilly Island was released as DLC originally, but in this version it’s the fourth island you visit out of six. Lego DC Super Villains
In LEGO DC Super-Villains, the Justice League has officially disappeared. A mysterious group of Justice League-style villains shows up and they call themselves the Justice Syndicate, but in fact, they are the reason for the Justice League’s demise and are only here to aid Darkseid in his evil plans of obliteration. Similar to the Suicide Squad movie plot, LEGO DC Super-Villains is all about teamwork in the face of disagreements and adversity, but this time it works better. He eschews the dark tone for something full of whimsical humor and amusing jokes to drive the story forward. Buy now
Ratchet & Clank
Ratchet & Clank begins with an extended intro where the eponymous duo is reunited. Ratchet is a Lombax – a strange feline creature that walks upright – who works as a mechanic on a backward planet, dreaming of exploring the galaxy. Clank is a malfunctioning robot accidentally created in a factory intended to pump killer war robots. When Clank crashes on Ratchet’s planet, the two teams up to alert the galaxy to the imminent threat of war robots and the boisterous bandits behind it. This quest will take the two of them on a journey to around a dozen different planets, where most of their time will be spent running, jumping and blasting enemies with a colorful arsenal of weapons. Sackboy: A Great Adventure
The adorable Astro’s Playroom may have stolen people’s hearts at the launch of the PlayStation 5 (no doubt in part thanks to it being free), but any fan of 3D platformers would do well not to leave Sackboy: A Big Adventure locked away in the toy box. This spin-off (which is also available on PS4) is relentlessly charming, bringing creative level ideas to a familiar format with a focus on co-op play, even if it doesn’t have the same precision and depth as the genre’s most beloved games. While Sackboy may have been cut from the fabric of previous LittleBigPlanet games, A Big Adventure feels much closer to games like Super Mario 3D World, both in structure and design. Levels are usually isometric dioramas of wide paths for you and up for three friends to run around, catching tip bubbles, hitting up bandits and hunting collectibles like you do. Buy now
Sonic Colors Ultimate
Since dominating the gaming scene in the early 1990s, Sonic the Hedgehog has continued to be one of the most recognizable names in video games. If you really kept up with the Sonic games, however, you know that Sega had a tremendous problem transitioning their mascot into the world of 3D gaming. Sonic Colors: Ultimate sees Sonic and Tails traveling to Doctor Eggman’s Amazing Interstellar Amusement Park, Eggman’s newest evil scheme. Although the theme park is innocent at first glance, Eggman built it using the power of the Wisps, a mysterious enslaved alien race, and Sonic’s planet is next. Sonic must join up with the Wisps to take down Eggman’s theme park before it’s too late. Buy now
Sponge Bob Square Pants
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated marks the return of one of the most iconic licensed characters to enter the 3D platformer fray. Unfortunately, this flashy remake feels more like a superficial remaster in practice, doing little to fix the issues that plagued the original adventure. Its graphical update is accompanied by some creative improvements, but these few bright spots are not enough to bring out the acceptable but simplistic and heavy gameplay of Battle for Bikini Bottom. up to the standard you’d expect from a platformer – especially with remakes like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy showing how a revival like this should be done. The original Battle for Bikini Bottom, reviewer Mary Jane Irwin said, “The love for the SpongeBob franchise really shines through in Battle for Bikini Bottom – and if it weren’t there, this would be a very sad title. As I repeat nearly 17 years later, this feels extremely accurate – and what’s saddest about Rehydrated’s 10-hour campaign is all the missed opportunities to really modernize this adventure for newbies and those of us who look back fondly on it. . .
